  • High Fade Bass Player Oli Sentance Joins Laney Artist Family

We’re proud to welcome bass player Oli Sentance of Edinburgh-based funk-rock powerhouse High Fade to the Laney artist family.

With their explosive blend of funk, rock, and groove-heavy energy, this fast-rising trio has taken social media by storm — racking up over 450,000 followers on Instagram, 70,000+ YouTube subscribers, and millions of streams across Spotify and other platforms.

Known for their tight musicianship, incredibly catchy songs and undeniable stage presence, High Fade are leading a new wave of independent artists pushing the boundaries of genre and groove and now they’re bringing that sound to life with Laney bass amplifiers, specifically the Laney Digbeth bass amps.

We caught up with the band’s bassist Oli Sentance to talk about his rig, his tone, why Laney is the perfect match for High Fade’s sound and what it means to be part of the Laney family of artists.

What Bass Amp Does Oli in High Fade Use?

When it comes to bass tone, Oli in High Fade doesn’t mess around, choosing some of the most powerful bass amps we have.

Oli’s current live bass rig features:

  • Laney Digbeth DB500H Bass Amp Head
  • Laney DBV410-4 Cabinet (aka what Oli calls “The TallBwoi”)

“Not gonna lie — beast of a rig!” – says Oli

For the large venues the band are playing, the Laney DB500H gives Oli the clean headroom and raw power needed for big-stage funk energy, while the DBV410-4 cab delivers articulate tone and clear projection thanks to its vertical design so he can hear and feel it onstage.

“I mainly chose the 500 over the 200 as I knew some of the festivals we were going to be playing would require that kind of power! We don’t use in-ears or anything like that and monitors never really do it justice, so I like having that extra room if I need it!” – Says Oli

As for the Laney DBV410-4 cab?

“It’s pretty darn articulate and full of clarity! I mainly chose that one as it was taller than any other 4×10 I’ve seen recently — and it’s pointing more at you than just at your calves like most of ’em!”

Both the cab and the bass amp head are part of the iconic Laney Digbeth bass amplifier range, designed, engineered and built in Great Britain. They’re made for the stages of the world and designed for world-class musicians like Oli who needs a reliable bass rig for festivals and live shows.

How Has The Laney Digbeth Bass Rig Changed Oli’s Playing?

The Laney rig hasn’t just given High Fade more stage power when it comes to bass, but it’s actually helped Oli level up his technique too.

“I’ve really changed my right-hand technique in a positive way. I can hear more nuances in my playing, so I don’t need to play as hard to get the same clarity. It all aids in speed and stamina, really.”

If you listen to any High Fade song, you can hear the sheer musicianship and versatility of Oli’s bass playing, whether it’s subtle fingerstyle work or full-on hard hits on the strings, we’re happy to hear that the Digbeth Bass setup lets Oli tap into every detail of his tone, without compromise!

Is the Digbeth Bass Rig Versatile Enough for High Fade’s Sound?

We’re happy to say that yes, it absolutely is.

The Laney Digbeth range is known for its flexibility, and Oli makes the most of it — switching up tones based on style, instrument, and vibe.

“I like to play a lot of Motown at home and tend to use my ‘78 P-Bass with flats and a sponge. It’s nice just being able to flick the Tube switch and turn up the mix — you hit that sweet spot of vintage tone that just fits instantly.”

That’s the mixable FET & TUBE pre amp sections Oli is talking about, which gives you incredible versatility of tones and additional oomph when you want that chorus to kick in.

“With High Fade, I’ll play with the tube completely off and zeroed, with a little bit of Tilt, just to get that bite and top-end sizzle.”

The Tilt functionality on the Laney Digbeth bass amp is a dynamic, powerful SEE SAW EQ control. Turning the control clockwise increases the overall mid to high frequencies and decreases the lows thereby giving your sound more presence, which can be useful for cutting through live band situations.

Why Did Oli from High Fade Choose Laney Amps?

The team at Laney isn’t massive, and we focus on creating connections with our artists, making sure that we are creating the best amps possible. That’s just one of the reasons Laney amps are so popular. The sound. The build. The people. It all comes together and artists like Tony Iommi and Billy Corgan use Laney amps for that reason.

“I honestly love working with Laney Amps just because of the versatility, clarity, and how responsive the cabs are. The sound projects in a way that others just don’t!
Plus… it’s not too hard on the back and looks a lil sexy!”

What’s It Like Being a Part of the Laney Artist Family?

“Man, working with the Laney team so far has been a great experience! They’ve been nothing short of amazing. From taking the time to show us around, letting us sit there for hours and choose the right rig and go through a million different settings — it was just super helpful. Ian at Laney has gone above and beyond, sorting out a rig for our 2-month American tour with a week and a half’s notice! LEGEND!!” – Says Oli

What’s Next for High Fade?

High Fade are heading into an incredibly busy 2025–2026 — and Oli gave us a preview of what’s coming up:

“The next couple of months are full of a few UK shows, European Festival dates, Boomtown Fair, Electric Picnic, a 6-week US leg of our Unsigned and Dangerous tour starting 25th September, then our UK leg in November and December! I can’t say too much… but maybe some studio time in there as well…”

One of the most fun and exciting bands to catch live!

We’re stoked to have Oli and High Fade as part of the Laney family — a band who are as tone-obsessed as we are.

From the Laney Digbeth DB500H bass amp head to the Laney DBV410-4, this setup is powering some of the tightest funk-rock grooves on the planet right now and it’s only the beginning for them.

Welcome to the Laney family, High Fade. We can’t wait to see what you do next.
