We have recently sealed the deal with the bass player from Bristol trip-hop legends ‘Portishead’. Whilst on tour in Germany we had a call to help the band out of a tight spot, and duly sent them over a new Nexus Tube, NX410 and NX115. The band are so pleased with the versatility of the amp, and particularly the ‘enormous, phat bottom end’ they have decided to endorse the product.
Portishead are mid tour for the first time in a decade, and will be hitting arenas and large venues across the UK mid April, alongside television appearance on the UK’s cult TV show ‘Later, with Jools Holland’.

Make sure you check out the April edition of PICKUP magazine (UK), containing the ace REVIEW of the new Laney LC30-112. Here are some snippets from the review.
“This is the Laney we know and love, but it’s shiny and new, too”
“I love this amp, and so will you, and I’ll leave your jaw to drop when you see the price – they could have charged a lot more for this and it would have be a justified price.”

The 2008 Frankfurt Music show kicked off on the 12th March and from the outset was a great show for Laney….
Frankfurt Music Messe saw the European launch of the new revamped Laney valve range.
“Since the launch of Lionheart the previous year we’d wanted to try and bring a unified look to the Laney valve range”
Simon Fraser-Clark – Laney’s Marketing Manager. “ I think we’ve achieved that”.
“We’ve taken some of the visual indent’s from the Lionheart range and applied them to the new range of amplifiers – new front fret material which is far more tactile and textured than before, a new die-cast metal badge, piping and joined up design concepts such as on the VC range making the fixings for the leather handle an integral part of the cooling grill structure”
LC new 2008 LC30-112 & LC50-112 have undergone a little pre amp revision and have had a gain control added to the clean channel – making it now possible to add a little drive the clean channel to give it some valve warmth or if you want drive the clean channel into a fair degree of pleasing distortion for a classic vintage rhythm sound.
The LC’s have also feature the addition of an over all TONE control which gives the player a quick and effective way of getting some great tonal variations in their sounds.
The New GH and VH range – Same amazing tone – but even more beautiful, well we think so!
To compliment the new look VH & GH ranges two new cabinets have been designed. The new PRO range of angled and straight fronted 4 x 12 cabinets have been designed to handle the huge variety of tones you can get from a VH or a GH and are built to an almost indestructible level, large dimensions for even more low end, new handles – rugged castors. All designed to take life on the road. In addition to Pro range there is the new compact GS212IE – a 2 x 12 extension cabinet which makes an ideal partner for a GH50L for a small but amazing tuneful valve rig, or when you need a little more presence team it up with as 4 x 12 - stunning.

There is no getting away from it – guitar amps and bass amps need to be played LOUD!
Unfortunately the show has an 80dB max level restriction but luckily the Agora stage does not.
This year it was Laney pleasure to unleash Morglbl onto the unsuspecting German public. Both Christophe and Ivan had been amazing the crowds on the Laney booth during the show. But that was nothing compared to the reaction of the Frankfurt show to Morglbl live and loud!
Christophe Godin with his VH100R and Ivan Rougny with Nexus Tube Rig and NX810 cabinets - seriously loud bass tones!

To describe the music of Mattias “IA” Eklundh as unusual and eclectic is selling his music a little short. The Music of “IA” is totally out there!
This year “IA” did not disappoint the Agora crowd one bit. He combined his amazing guitar playing with two musical companions of great renowned – on bass Jonas Hellborg and Selvaganesh on Kanijira (south Indian frame drum) to produce complex south Indian rhythmic structures with frantic, groovey bass combined with freaky, beefy guitar riffs and amazing vivid leads.
Add to this musical mixing pot the fact that none of them had got together before the show to talk about what they were going to play – pure musical improvisation left the Agora spell bound!

To wrap up their recent headline tour of the UK, British punks Gallows retraced the roots of punk and played a sweaty 4 night residency at the 100 Club, Oxford St, London. The venue became legendary as the home of punk as ‘The Marquee Club’ and played host to shows from The Sex Pistols and The Clash in the 1970s earning it a reputation as the home of punk. Laney headed down to the club and caught up with the guys backstage before the show. Guitarist Laurant ‘Laggs’ Barnard and bass player Stu Gili-Ross endorse the VH100R and NEXUS TUBE respectively. Gallows ‘Orchestra Of Wolves’ is out now on Black Envelope records...

Continuing Britain’s legacy as its birthplace, Gallows have brought their own brand of visceral, energised punk back to public attention. The pummelling grooves of the Watford five piece (laid down by bassist Stu Gili-Ross) are now dealt out through a NEXUS TUBE and NX810. On trying out the NEXUS stack, Stu remarked that the system ‘sounds like the Devil’... Some praise indeed, proving that NEXUS menacing look is complemented by its sound.

Not too many people know that Lyndon Laney and Robert Plant are ex band members. Lyndon was the original bass player in The Band Of Joy, the band which later turned into Led Zeppelin.
Whilst Robert went on to front arguably one of the biggest bands of all time, Lyndon decided that his skills lay in designing and building amplifiers for his friends such as Robert and Tony Iommi of Black Sabbath.
Robert and Lyndon are still firm friends and Robert is a frequent visitor to the Laney HQ.
In fact Robert recently dropped in to present Lyndon and James with a commemorative Led Zeppelin plaque in recognition of the support that Lyndon and the Company have shown Robert since those early years.
